Cape Cod Seals Gallery Introduction
Along the outer shores of Cape Cod, shifting sandbars provide an ideal resting place for one of the region’s most remarkable wildlife recoveries—the gray seal. Once nearly eliminated along the New England coast, gray seals have returned in growing numbers, gathering along remote beaches and sandbars where they rest between feeding trips in the rich Atlantic waters.
This collection of photographs captures moments from a single encounter with a colony of seals along one of Cape Cod’s quiet sandbars. Some of the animals lounge peacefully in the sun while others slip back into the ocean, splashing through the shallow surf as they return to the sea. Many of the seals seen along these beaches are young animals learning to survive on their own as they explore the coastal waters that surround the Cape.
The constantly changing shoreline, the movement of the tide, and the quiet presence of the seals create scenes that are both lively and peaceful at the same time. These photographs offer a glimpse into the daily rhythm of marine life along the Atlantic coast.
All photographs are available as archival fine art prints.
